Pistoia: Capital of Culture 2017

The journeys of ItaaliandiAmo are based in Pistoia since 2017, when this hidden gem in Tuscany was appointed Italian Capital of Culture. And there are many good reasons for that, because this ‘little Florence’ has much beauty to offer. Here are just a few examples:

  • ‘Piazza della Sala’ with its little shops and lively permanent market stalls full of vegetables, flowers and herbs. In the evening the square turns into a big outdoor ‘living room’, with of tables set and ready for an aperitivo or a dinner among the Pistoiesi
  • The beautiful façade of ‘Ospedale del Ceppo’, which the locals call ‘ospedale vecchio’, the old hospital
  • ‘Piazza del Duomo’ unique example of a Medieval square with Duomo, cathedral, Campanile, bell tower, Battistero, baptistery, Tribunale, court, and Palazzo del Comune, townhall.
  • ‘Chiesa di Sant’Andrea’, with its fine pulpit by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, creators of the pulpits in Siena and Pisa’s cathedrals as well
  • Villa Garzoni, where the story of Pinocchio was born

Fly to Pisa, Florence or Bologna

Pistoia, located in the heart of Tuscany, is easy to reach from three surrounding airports: Pisa, Florence and Bologna. That makes choosing a fly destination or a holiday extension quite smooth. If you wish you can book a transfer from or/and to the airport with your subscription and ItaaliandiAmo will take care of arranging it for you. Easy and comfortable, right? If you arrive by car, there is a car park available at the B&B. You can also reach Pistoia by train from Florence, Pisa, Bologna or other Italian cities.

Beautiful B&B: Locanda San Marco

The Locanda San Marco is only 700m away from Piazza della Sala and features charming bedrooms and apartments in Palazzo Caluri and Palazzo Puccini, both eighteenth-century palaces in the heart of Pistoia. Our group stays in the B&B and can also enjoy a fully equipped kitchen, a relax room with tea and Italian liqueurs and a studio with laptop and printer.

Every day starts with a rich, healthy and homemade breakfast, including both savory and sweet local products, beside a variety of yogurt, muesli, fresh juices and fruit. Everything will be ready for us on the ground floor to be enjoyed in the beautifully decorated breakfast room or among the greenery of the terrace. That’s also the perfect place to have a cappuccino, a homemade dolce or a glass of wine. Coffee, tea and water is always available, as well as fresh fruit.

Any special diet need, and allergies will be taken into account.

All bedrooms are beautifully furnished and feature a private bathroom with shower, toiletries and a hair dryer. The overnight stay is in a double room, but you can also have it all for yourself if you wish (you just need to tick that option in the subscription form). The whole palace has free Wi-Fi connection.

The Locanda San Marco is at 15 minutes’ walk from Pistoia train station, where we will occasionally go and catch the train to other Tuscan beauties, such as Lucca.

“For two years, Anna was our conversation teacher at Dante Alighieri Rotterdam. Her sparkling energy and sense of humor made the lessons always varied and very enjoyable. Of course, she presented us also grammar and Italian culture! In a playful but solid way. I learned a lot while having genuine fun. Grazie mille, Anna!”
